Week 8

In EEL, we discussed prepositions!  Although we memorize a large number of them in Foundations, our list is not exhaustive.   For every 5 prepositions your child brings to class, they will receive 1 bonus point!  During class, we were stumped as to how to use but as a preposition, but we were looking at it at the beginning of a sentence.  Beyond the colon is an example: Concerning dinner, I want everything but cabbage.

Kindly,Ruth provided us with other resources for prepositions, be sure to thank her next week!  http://www.homeschool-curriculum.co/videos-and-resources/ Click on the two with prepositions in their name.

The kids were so excited to play battleship!  Next week we'll play a card game using the face cards as the 13-15's.  Practice the facts as home this week.

Somehow I attempted to skip a lesson this week!  Thanks for catching the error Charlotte!   So we are on lesson 6 with topic sentences and clinchers.  With each passing week, we'll ask a few more children to read from their KWO.  Papers should continue to be done and brought to class, we just want to work on presenting not necessarily reading the papers to the class.  According to Debbie, they are working on the same task in Challenge B! The more familiar they are with their papers, the easier it will be to present from the KWO.

Peace and Blessings,
Ty

Week 6

EEL- After reviewing Chart B, we introduced Charts G & H and discussed compound sentences.  Everyone had a good grasp of compound sentences, which is great.  Unfortunately, we are still weak in parsing sentences, please practices the questions this week.  New points system announced!  From now on, 1 point for copying a new chart can be earned everyday; while 1 point per day for every chart written from memory can be earned.

Math- When review math facts, we're only going to go for 1 minute.  Please practice at home so they'll have an idea of how quickly that time goes.

IEW- Reviewing a random paragraph from one of their papers, students looked at their sentence openers for variety.  Because we had lots of duplication, we'll check sentence openers next week. Mark your papers!  If you didn't read your paper today, come prepared to read it next week.

As always, let me know if you have any questions.

Peace and Blessings,
Ty

Week 5

EEL- What a productive day!  Although we didn't tackle any new charts, everyone should still be reviewing charts  A-F.  If your child knows those, please move forward!  Discussing the fourth and final sentence purpose, we had fun turning declarative statements into questions.  Followed by diagramming, we were through with Grammar in a flash. Next week, we're moving on to conjunctions, compound sentences and the S-Vt-DO pattern.

Math- Successfully, Battleship was introduced as a new math game!  Fun was had by all.

IEW- Moving away from KWO's, we're transitioning to Summarizing Narrative Stories.  This is Lesson 9 in the Student Book.  In your TWSS binders,  page 27 begins Unit III.  Since we finished the outline for the first paragraph in class, everyone should be able to write that one. If they are comfortable moving on, please do so.  If not, it's ok since we'll pick up with paragraph two and three next week.
